All BoE rate setters still expect next rate move will be a hike - governor Carney

LONDON, Feb 4 (Reuters) - All of the Bank of England's interest rate setters believe the next move for British interest rates is likely to be up rather than down, BoE Governor Mark Carney said on Thursday.

Asked if he stood by previous comments that the next move was likely to be up, Carney told reporters: "Absolutely, the whole MPC (KOSDAQ: 050540.KQ - news) stands by that."

Ian McCafferty, the lone policymaker who had backed a rate rise in recent months, unexpectedly abandoned this position on Thursday, and the BoE cut its growth forecasts.

Before Thursday, financial markets had priced in a roughly 30 percent chance of a BoE interest rate cut by 2017 as the global economic outlook darkened since the start of the year. (Reporting by David Milliken and Ana Nicolaci da Costa; Writing by Andy Bruce; Editing by Hugh Lawson)
