Borat 2 star Maria Bakalova has lined up her next role, with the Academy Award-nominated actress set to star in new thriller Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.

Deadline reports that Bakalova, who shot to fame after starring as the daughter of Sacha Baron Cohen's character Borat in last year's comedy sequel, will lead the cast alongside The Hate U Give and The Hunger Games actress Amandla Stenberg.

The Suicide Squad and The King of Staten Island actor Pete Davidson and Industry star Myha'la Herrold are also reported to be joining the cast.

Bakalova's role as Borat's daughter Tutar Sagdiyev in Borat Subsequent Moviefilm has earned her a number of awards nominations, including Best Supporting Actress at the 2021 Academy Awards and BAFTA Film Awards.

The breakout star recently praised Sacha Baron Cohen for using his movies to make a statement about the world, calling Borat 2 a "riot against misogyny".

"I think that Sacha as an artist is doing a revolution through his art. I can say that probably, how I see him, he's trying to make the world a better place," she said.

She went on to praise the messages that the movie conveys, saying: "There are a lot of messages that I stand up against. We need these reactions. We need this stigma to be over. I think it's important. We're living in the 21st century, but unfortunately, there are a lot of places in the world that these issues are still existing and why?

"We are all human, we're equal, we are women but somehow, we're still subjugated by the patriarchy. It's time to, step by step, make a difference, I hope."

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm is available to watch now on Amazon Prime Video.
