Prime Minister Boris Johnson and wife Carrie Johnson have announced they're expecting their second child.

The pair welcomed their first child together - a son named Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson - in April 2020, and Carrie has now taken to Instagram to announce they're expecting another.

In the caption (via BBC), Carrie also told followers she had suffered a heartbreaking miscarriage. It read, "At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage which left me heartbroken. I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I’ve also felt like a bag of nerves.

"Fertility issues can be really hard for many people, particularly when on platforms like Instagram it can look like everything is only ever going well. I found it a real comfort to hear from people who had also experienced loss so I hope that in some very small way sharing this might help others too."

As Carrie's Instagram account is private, we can't embed the post, but she went on to say their second baby is due in December 2021.

The announcement suggests that Carrie was pregnant at the time of her marriage to the 57-year-old Prime Minister on 29 May, when they tied the knot secretly.

It was a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral, followed by a 30-person reception in the garden of Downing Street. Carrie rented her dress, a Christos Costarellos gown, for the occasion. Boris Johnson became the first Prime Minister to get married while in office in nearly 200 years.

Congratulations to the pair.
