Water Park: Boy Looking For Goggles Finds Child

A woman who tried to resuscitate a five-year-old boy pulled from a water park pool said it was the most "heartbreaking" thing she had ever done.

The youngster, who later died in hospital, had been found in the water by an 11-year-old "searching for his goggles", it has been claimed.

The victim has been named by Sky sources as Charlie Dunn.

Police said two people arrested over the death of the boy, believed to be his mother and stepfather, have been bailed.

Relatives of the boy urged people not to criticise his parents saying they had enough to deal with "coming to terms with the loss of such a lovely happy funny handsome little angel".

Those who witnessed the tragedy on Saturday have written on social media to describe how his body was discovered at Bosworth Water Park in Warwickshire.

In a Facebook post, Sheena Thomas said: "My 11-year-old nephew pulled this lil boy from the water after feeling his hair whilst searching for his goggles he had lost."

Faeeza Mwnuk said she witnessed a "young boy being carried out of the shallow water by an older boy who 'felt something by my feet"'.

The boy had reportedly been visiting the outdoor attraction near Nuneaton with his family.

He was taken to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire, where he later died.

A statement issued on the Facebook page of Bosworth Water Park said: "From all of the staff at Bosworth Water Park, we would like to pass on our deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this tragic loss of life."

Commenting on the company's post, Penny Broughton said: "I was helping today with the CPR and it truly was (the) most heartbreaking thing I've done."

Melanie Allen posted: "Saw this horrible tragedy yesterday and will never get those images out of my head."

Sally-Anne Jepson said: "Every parents nightmare. I was there and I thought the staff and emergency services acted quickly.

"I send my deepest sympathy to the whole family."

Raegan Birley said: "We were quite near and were totally shaken seeing this happen.

"To everyone that helped, you worked so so hard, it must be devastating to see this news.

"To this little boy's family I am so so sorry.

"Things can change in seconds and this must be horrific for any family to go through."

In a statement, Leicestershire Police said: "Our investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing. The two people arrested in connection with the incident and have now been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

"We would continue to ask that people do not speculate about the incident and the circumstances surrounding the death and leave the authorities to carry out their investigations."

Writing on Facebook, the young boy's grandmother said: "Would like to thank everyone involving in trying to help the emergency services and a big thank you to Walgrave Hospital for the help and support.

"I am a family member it was my grandson please do not speculate as no one really knows what happened, but it is a very sad time for us all and a very sad loss of such a young life."

Urging people not to criticise the parents, she said they had enough to deal with "coming to terms with the loss of such a lovely happy funny handsome little angel".

Another auntie said: "We will never know why he went by the water but it's something his family will have to live with for the rest of their lives."

As part of their appeal for information about the tragedy, police investigators have asked for any one who took video footage around the blue lagoon beach on Saturday to contact them on 101 quoting incident 440 of 23 July.

On the water park's website, the blue lagoon beach is described as "the only place children actually entertain themselves".

It adds: "Built in 2015 this attraction brings the seaside inland.

"The crystal clear blue water invites the kids in for a paddle leaving parents relaxing on the golden sand or well looked after grassed areas surrounding the lagoon."
