BP Whiting refinery continues work to restart CDU -sources

HOUSTON, March 1 (Reuters) - Work was continuing on Sunday to restart the 110,000 barrel per day (bpd) crude distillation unit (CDU) at BP Plc's 413,500 bpd Whiting, Indiana, refinery, said sources familiar with plant operations.

The CDU, which is the second largest crude unit at the refinery was shut on Wednesday by a malfunction. Since then the refinery has worked to return the CDU to production. The repairs were expected to take a "few days," sources familiar with plant operations said on Thursday.

The other two CDUs at the refinery have remained in operation while the 110,000 bpd unit has been shut.

BP has declined to discuss the status of refinery operations since the CDU was shut.

The Whiting refinery is one of 12 across the United States where hourly workers represented by the United Steelworkers union (USW) are on strike for a new three-year national agreement on safety, wages and health care.
