Brett Goldstein to Guest Star in ‘Shrinking’ Season 2

Brett Goldstein is set to make a guest appearance in Shrinking season two, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The Ted Lasso breakout co-created the Apple TV+ show alongside Bill Lawrence and Jason Segel, who also stars in the Emmy-nominated series.

Details about Goldstein’s character are being kept locked away in the therapist’s desk at this time.

Shrinking follows Segel’s Jimmy, a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules of his career by telling his clients exactly what he thinks. “Jimmy has lost his wife and wants to try a new approach to his loss, but it is unclear how this will help others,” the logline reads.

Goldstein has remained behind the camera as one of the show’s co-creators and executive producers. With his upcoming guest role, he’ll return to acting on an Apple TV+ series, following his role in Ted Lasso.

The actor originally joined the Jason Sudeikis-starring series as a writer but a few episodes in, he saw himself as Roy Kent and pitched to the other writers that he take on the role that ended up winning him two consecutive Emmys.

However, in a previous conversation with THR, the multihyphenate explained that he didn’t have a similar inclination to do that with Shrinking. “This just felt like I was writing for these guys, and I was very happy with that,” he said. “It didn’t occur to me on this one.”

He also shared that he doesn’t think there’s much of a difference between acting and writing. “It’s just that one happens behind closed doors and one happens on camera,” Goldstein said. “They’re both like, ‘How do I feel? What am I trying to do? How am I relating to the people in this room?’ You’re just imagining it when you’re writing.”

Season two of Shrinking is currently in production. Harrison Ford, Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell, Michael Urie and Luke Tennie round out the cast of the series, which marked one of Ford’s first TV series regular roles.
