Bride slammed over ‘irrational’ wedding date selection: ‘I bet she did it on purpose’

A woman doesn’t want to go to her sister’s wedding because of the date.

She shared what happened on Reddit’s “Am I the A******” forum. The woman has been in a long-distance relationship for four years and only gets to see her partner twice a year. When she heard her sister was getting married, she told her sister to be considerate of the dates of the two trips she booked with her significant other (SO).

“I am in a long-distance relationship for the past four years, we only see each other a couple of times a year in person,” the Reddit poster said. “Last year after our trip we rebooked into the same house because we loved it. A few months later my sister (27f) got engaged and told me she was getting married this year. I told her that’s great but that she should know if she chooses these two weekends I wouldn’t be able to attend as we have them booked and at that point, flights had already been booked as well.”

She and her sister had a falling out over the sister’s fiancé’s infidelity and haven’t really been close since the fight.

“A couple of months later, she tells me she wants me to be in the wedding, I say, great when is it? She says the first Saturday of my already booked holiday,” the woman explained. “I told her that I’d already told her I couldn’t come on that weekend. She told me it’s easy to just skip a few days of my vacation. I looked into flights and there would be no way to fly in the day of, drive to the location and get a flight back the next day so at best I’d be missing three days of my holiday and even more importantly three days with my SO as the only flight to get me there in time would be leaving before my SO’s flight arrives.”

“I bet she did it on purpose,” one person commented.

“You have a valid reason why you can’t attend and your sister is just being irrational,” another wrote.

“If they don’t respect you, don’t respect them,” someone said.
