Brighton 1-4 Man City LIVE! Foden brilliant - Premier League result, match stream and latest updates today
Brighton vs Manchester City - LIVE!
Pep Guardiola’s reigning champions will hope to apply more pressure on the early Premier League leaders on the south coast this evening.
City went into the weekend sitting third behind Chelsea and Liverpool and two points off the top following a routine 2-0 win over Burnley in which they were some way short of their best.
However, they responded to a somewhat lackluster display by hitting Club Brugge for five in the Champions League in midweek.
Brighton, meanwhile, are still flying high after a fine start to the season under Graham Potter, though they’ve lost a bit of momentum of late with three successive draws, failing to score in their last two.
The Seagulls will be hoping for a repeat of last season’s clash at the Amex Stadium, when they came back from 2-0 down to beat 10-man City 3-2 in an absorbing encounter in the run-up to the Champions League final.

A Phil Foden masterclass leads City to what turned out to be a routine win.
GOAL: Brighton 1-4 Man City | Riyad Mahrez
19:25 , Jonathan Gorrie
90+5 - With the final kick of the game, Riyad Mahrez fires in from Foden’s ball to wrap up the fixture.
Outstanding from Foden today.
CHANCE!
19:18 , Jonathan Gorrie
89:00 - Foden denied a hat-trick by Sanchez.
Sadly for Brighton, their goal looks to have come too late.
Famous last words, of course.
GOAL: Brighton 1-3 Man City | Alexis Mac Allister
19:12 , Jonathan Gorrie
DRAMA!
Ederson fouls Mwepu in the box when we would have appeared to be going nowhere and duly concedes a penalty.
After a VAR check, Mac Allister steps up and converts from the spot.
No less than Brighton deserve after this second-half performance.
Enter De Bruyne
19:05 , Jonathan Gorrie
75:00 - To make me look somewhat foolish, Guardiola has now brought on Kevin De Bruyne to replace Jack Grealish.
Commentator’s curse.
Subs say a lot
19:03 , Jonathan Gorrie
73:00 - Brighton, a team 3-0 down to the Premier League champions, have just brought on the attack-minded Alexis Mac Allister.
City, meanwhile, have turned to the wily old veteran Fernandinho.
That should tell you how this second-half has gone.
City slickers start to slow it done
18:59 , Jonathan Gorrie
70:00 - City are now slowing the game down.
The slick play we saw in the first-half isn’t at all evident at the moment, with the away side buying fouls and keeping the ball when they can to take the sting out of the game.
Clever game-management.
Don’t write Brighton off just yet
18:55 , Jonathan Gorrie
66:00 - Tariq Lamptey’s introduction has given Brighton a new lease of life.
Wonderfully direct, he’s causing the kind of problems from the right flank City just didn’t even think to have to deal with in the opening 45.
The home crowd really are up for this, which speaks volumes about the club’s progression under Potter.
Brighton having the better of it
18:52 , Jonathan Gorrie
62:00 - It’s not a case of Brighton carving through City but they are definitely in the ascendancy.
As was so often the case last season, however, Graham Potter’s side just can’t seem to convince in front of goal when the chance arises.
City need to see this storm out.
Another City save!
18:47 , Jonathan Gorrie
57:00 - Strangely enough, Ederson is now the busier of the two ‘keepers.
Trossard’s shot from long-range might not have proven overly troubling but the home side are now finding a way through the City press easier.
Ederson save!
18:44 , Jonathan Gorrie
54:00 - Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised given Brighton’s form this season but they really aren’t letting up.
Ederson is called into a save before Maupay could nip in from close-range and the home side are enjoying their best spell of the game.
All about winning the second-half, isn’t it?
Man City not letting up
18:38 , Jonathan Gorrie
49:00 - Phil Foden shoots just wide and looks determined to earn what would be a fairly dubious hat-trick given the deflections involved.
Still, it’s indicative of a player with an increasing goal threat.
Back underway
18:28 , Jonathan Gorrie
45:00 - We’re back underway after a dominant first-half performance from Pep Guardiola’s side.
In this kind of form, it’s hard to see a way back for Brighton even despite last season’s turnaround.

Half-time: Brighton 0-3 Man City

Absolutely imperious from City.
Ederson called into action
18:14 , Jonathan Gorrie
42:00 - Solly March unleashes a rasping shot that gives Ederson some trouble as the Brazilian elects to parry it ahead of catching.
At least he’s keeping his concentration!

A counter-attack sets Phil Foden up for the second!
17:55 , Jonathan Gorrie
It’s ALL Man City
17:55 , Jonathan Gorrie
25:00 - Brighton might be one of the most tactically interesting teams in the Premier League at the moment but City are looking so slick it could be 2017-18 all over again!
Sanchez denies a second
17:50 , Jonathan Gorrie
19:00 - While Sanchez was at fault for the goal, he’s just raced out to deny Phil Foden what would surely have been a second.
Minutes later, he saves well from Jesus to make ammends for his mistakes.

GOAL: Brighton 0-1 Man City | Ilkay Gundogan 13’
17:45 , Jonathan Gorrie
23:00 - Ilkay Gundogan scores after a HOWLER from Sanchez in the Brighton goal.
The home side complained but, frankly, the Spanish international was entirely at fault.
OFF THE LINE!
17:42 , Jonathan Gorrie
11:00 - An AMAZING clearance off the line from Lewis Dunk as Gabriel Jesus looks set to score.
Brighton aren’t just about eye-catching football! The Chris Hughton DNA lives on!
Chance!
17:38 , Jonathan Gorrie
07:00 - Cancelo - a palpable goal threat no one saw coming - has a shot well saved by Sanchez after some good work from Jack Grealish down the left.
All City in the opening stages
17:34 , Jonathan Gorrie
03:00 - As you might expect, the visitors are largely dominating possession in the opening stages.
Brighton, however, do have the power to hurt Pep Guardiola’s side.

Your Evening Standard prediction
16:05 , Jonathan Gorrie
Brighton have beaten Leicester and drawn with Arsenal at home, and are good value for their impressive start so far, but this is a different echelon. City’s performance against the Belgian champions was ominous if you’re a fan of the Seagulls. And though Brighton would have to have a terrible day out to embarrass themselves, even their best will likely not be enough for a result.
