British Scout Dies At Jamboree In Finland

A ​scout has died during a jamboree event in Finland.

Charlie Girling, 12, from Kent, collapsed at the camp on Sunday night after a sudden illness, and an on-site medical team and paramedics were unable to save him.

A spokesman for The Scout Association said: "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of this young scout during this difficult and challenging time.

"The Scout Association is in touch with all the families of the young people attending the Finnish National Jamboree from Kent, ensuring they are fully briefed and supported.

"We will be working with the Finnish Scout Movement and the relevant local authorities to establish the full details of this tragic incident."

The victim's family has been informed, and scouts at the event have been offered counselling.

A memorial service was held at the camp on Monday, where mourners gathered at the main stage.

The nine-day camp is being held in Evo, Hämeenlinna, and around 650 Scouts from the UK are attending.
