Yahoo Finance Britney Spears Testifies that Conservatorship Kept her from Having a Baby
Singer Britney Spears has spoken out in court and asked a judge to formally end her conservatorship, which sees her father, Jamie Spears, and a team of professionals, have control over her money, schedule and according to her testimony, pretty much every aspect of her life.
Her evidence comes after years of campaigning from the Free Britney movement, which was established with the cause of petitioning for the singer's conservatorship (which was placed upon her in 2008, following a bout of poor mental health).
Speaking via a remote link, Variety reports that Britney alleged that her father and the conservatorship team have such a hold over her life that they've refused to allow her to have her IUD removed, so that she can start trying for a baby with her partner, Sam Asghari. 'I have an IUD in my body right now that won’t let me have a baby and my conservators won’t let me go to the doctor to take it out,' the court heard.
She also said that after refusing to perform a series of shows in Las Vegas, her therapist then branded her as 'uncooperative' and switched her usual medication over to lithium regimen. 'Not only did my family not do a goddamn thing [at this time], my dad was all for it,' Britney told Judge Brenda Penny while making her request. 'Anything that happened to me had to be approved by my dad.'
Following being deemed 'uncooperative', Britney says she was told by her father that she had to a stay in a $60,000 a night facility and that in her opinion, he enjoyed having control over her.
'The control he had over someone as powerful as me — he loved the control to hurt his own daughter 100,000%. He loved it,' she continued. 'I packed my bags and went to that place. I worked seven days a week, no days off, which in California, the only similar thing to this is called sex trafficking. Making anyone work against their will, taking all their possessions away — credit card, cash, phone, passport — and placing them in a home where they work with the people who live with them.'
The mother-of-two also shared how unhappy she is with her situation, 'I’ve lied and told the whole world 'I’m OK and I’m happy'... It’s a lie. I thought I just maybe if I said that enough maybe I might become happy. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. But now I’m telling you the truth... I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry it’s insane. And I’m depressed. I cry every day.'
Continuing her impassioned plea to the judge, Britney then added that she felt lonely and bullied by her father and the management team, 'I feel ganged up on, I feel bullied and I feel left out and alone. I'm tired of feeling alone... All I want is to own my money and for this to end. My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail.'
She also said that last time she was in court two years ago, she left feeling like she hadn't been listened to and alleged that one of her previous doctors had been abusive, saying she 'dropped to her knees' upon hearing the news that he had passed away.
Britney's father and his legal team have always maintained that they have acted with Britney's best interests at heart and that Jamie Spears was not motivated by money or power in any way. Through his lawyer, Jamie said that he is sorry to see his daughter in so much pain and that he misses and loves her.
The hearing ended without resolution and it's believed this will be Britney's only public statements on the matter, and that her attorney, Samuel Ingham III, would request for documents to be sealed from now on.

She later addressed the programme on Instagram, saying it had left her feeling embarrassed: 'I've always been so judged... insulted... and embarrassed by the media... and I still am till this day 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 !!!! As the world keeps on turning and life goes on we still remain so fragile and sensitive as people!!!
'I didn't watch the documentary but from what I did see of it I was embarrassed by the light they put me in ... I cried for two weeks and well .... I still cry sometimes !!!!
