Yahoo Finance Brits will spend almost £900m hosting Easter gatherings this year
Brits are expected to spend nearly £900m ($1.1bn) on Easter parties in 2019, proving being the host can be very egg-spensive.
In a survey of over 2,000 adults by credit card company American Express, Brits said they will splash out an average of £127 each on Easter Sunday gatherings this year – £861m across the nation.
The cost of feeding guests at Easter remains less than during the festive period, though. Brits said they will spend £68 keeping their nearest and dearest topped up with food and drink, in comparison to £88 at Christmas. Although chocolate Easter eggs remain the favoured treat, 7% of Brits said they will breaking with tradition this year, sourcing vegan, cheese and avocado alternatives.

Refreshments are expected to be the biggest hosting cost this Easter, while Easter eggs (£21), presents (£15), Easter egg hunt supplies such as eggs and baskets (£10), and decorations (£8) fill out the top five.
When it comes to plans for Easter festivities, more than a third (34%) of Brits said they will be at a family gathering over the bank holiday weekend, while one in ten will get together with friends.
Stephen Steinhardt, director at American Express, said: “Easter is a time to catch up with friends and family. If you’re hosting this year, a good way to cut costs is to take up offers of help from guests. Whether they want to bring a dish or organise the Egg Hunt for the kids, this help will ease some of the pressure of organising the weekend and will prevent you from overspending.
