BT internet connections have stopped working after extreme weather, the company has said.

"Large parts of the UK" are having problems that are causing issues connecting to the internet, BT Internet's service status page said.

"We are working to fix this as soon as possible", the company said, though it did not give any update on when the problems would be fixed. It described the estimated time to fix it as "ongoing".

It said that restarting the router might bring the internet back online for people who have been affected.

If that does not work, and people have a functioning internet connection on their phone, they were advised to go to BT's fault reporting website to alert the company to any issues.
