Buy this incredible castle and tower in Hampshire
Want to be queen or king of your own castle? Then take a look at Warblington Castle in Hampshire which has just gone on the market for £2.6 million.
Originally built in the mid-14th century, the listed seven-bedroom country house is truly magnificent and has many historic tales to tell. In the 15th century, the castle was owned by the 16th Earl of Warwick, Richard Neville, who was famously known as the King Maker for his part in the War of the Roses.
Warblington Castle was then owned by the 17th Earl of Warwick, Edward Plantagenet, and later his sister, Margaret Pole, who became a confidante of Catherine of Aragon. When she was given the title 'Countess of Salisbury', Margaret arranged the building of a newly fortified manor house and moat, the remains of which can still be seen in the grounds today.
The manor was later demolished by Parliamentarian forces after the English Civil War, as the owning Cotton family were Royalists. Today the ancient tower, part of the gate and drawbridge support, still survive and are Grade II listed.
Built of Caen stone, the home showcases exposed stonework, open fireplaces, stone flagged floors, bay windows, vaulted ceilings and exposed beams.
As with any true country house, there is a useful boot room, utility room, and vast wine cellar.
Located in Warblington, close to Langstone Harbour, the castle is surrounded by beautiful unspoilt countryside and offers far-reaching views.
The gardens spread across four acres. Highlights include the pergola covered terrace, orchard of pear and apple trees, and swimming pool with adjacent stone-built pool house.
This property is available for £2,600,000 through Jackson-Stops via OnTheMarket.com.
