BUZZ-Aberdeen Asset Mgmt: sticking it out in Asia & EM

Aberdeen Asset Management (Other OTC: ABDNF - news) shares have their best day of the year following the company's trading update.

** Facing outflows and cutting costs. More than 4 billion pounds in first quarter) but money leaving slowed in March.

** Asia & EM equity funds the main culprits.

** Aberdeen's preferred strategy of sticking to its large positions and trading around them has served the firm well in the past but likely hurt the firm last year.

** In 2013 it appears to have missed out on the handful of EM/Asia outperforming stocks such as China internet or Macau gaming. Neither appear in the latest updated fund fact sheets.

** If the current shift in sentiment towards EM sustains, however, Aberdeen's large positions in the likes of Samsung Electronics and China Mobile (Berlin: CTM.BE - news) may pay off.
