BUZZ-Enbridge pulls plug on New England Access Northeast natgas pipe
July 6 (Reuters) - Enbridge (Dusseldorf: EN3.DU - news) withdrew from the proposed $3.2 billion Access Northeast natural gas pipeline project in New England due to a lack of supportive energy policies in all of the region's states, according to a filing last week:
* The project was designed to fuel the growing number of gas-fired power plants in New England. Those plants, however, were reluctant to enter into long-term contracts needed to finance the pipeline
* The project ran into trouble last year after the high court in Massachusetts would not allow gas companies to pass the pipeline's costs onto customers
* Enbridge and its partners, Eversource and National Grid said they would revisit the project if states adopt supportive energy policies
