BUZZ-Norwegian Air: US approval prospects dimmer under Trump - HSBC

** The election of Donald Trump as US President means it is less likely that Norwegian Air will gain approval for its Irish-based unit to fly to the US, HSBC says

** "The prospects of Norwegian to secure approval for its UK and Irish subsidiaries to serve the US are dimmer today. However, it will probably continue to grow using its original Norwegian license," the analysts write

** Norwegian Air reiterates that the application meets all requirements and its expansion plan could deliver new jobs

** "We are confident the Department of Transportation will approve Norwegian Air International's application and we hope they will do so shortly," the carrier says in a statement

** HSBC analysts also say that they expect a modest weakening of demand on the Atlantic (Shanghai: 600558.SS - news) , adding they continue to prefer low-cost carriers to flag-carriers among European airlines

** Research conducted by Travelzoo (NasdaqGS: TZOO - news) before the election and released on Wednesday showed nearly one-third of UK travellers would reconsider travel to the US should Trump win
