** Shell (LSE: RDSB.L - news) 's UK-listed shares up 3 pct after the oil major reported market-beating Q2 profit

** Co plans to cut 6,500 jobs, reduce spending and sell assets to deal with continued lower oil price

** Co's dual-class shares top gainers on the bluechip FTSE 100 index and the STOXX Europe 600 oil and gas index

** Co says on track to complete its $70 billion acquisition of BG Group (LSE: BG.L - news) early next year

** The combined co will be the world's leading LNG co and one the largest deepwater oil producers

** BG shares also up about 2 pct at 1063.9 pence, with nearly a full day's average volume traded in the first hour and a half, and third biggest FTSE 100 gainer
