BUZZ-Thomas Cook: slips on Barclays downgrade

** Tour operator Thomas Cook (Frankfurt: A0MR3W - news) 's shares down 3.4 pct, bottom of FTSE 250

** Barclays (LSE: BARC.L - news) downgrades shares to "equal weight" from "overweight" citing valuation and lack of imminent catalyst

** Thomas Cook echoed concerns raised by rival tour operator TUI (LSE: 0NLA.L - news) over the market for travel by British tourists on Thursday, saying that competition at home had slowed growth

** "We view Thomas Cook as a value stock with scope to re-rate if margins improve, the benefits of the new operating model are generated and the dividend is increased. However, trading remains tough and so it remains a risky investment" Barclays (Swiss: BARC.SW - news) says

** Stock up >9 pct YTD (until Thursday's close)
