BUZZ-UK energy regulator says 60 pct of consumers are on worst value tariffs

LONDON, Oct (Shenzhen: 000069.SZ - news) 31 (Reuters) - Britain's energy regulator Ofgem said 60 percent of consumers are on the worst value tariffs, in its State of the Energy Market 2017 report, published on Tuesday.

** Some 60 pct of British energy consumers are on low value standard variable tariffs (SVTs).

** Gap between the cheapest tariff available and SVTs is around 300 pounds ($396.06) a year for a standard household.

** Customers pay 90 pounds per year each on average towards environmental policies.

** Renewables such as wind, solar and biomass, provide around 25 pct of Britain's electricity, up from 5 pct in 2006.

** Britain has 60 suppliers offering gas or electricity, Big six companies – Centrica (Frankfurt: A0DK6K - news) , SSE (LSE: SSE.L - news) , Iberdrola (Amsterdam: ID6.AS - news) 's Scottish Power, Innogy's npower, E.ON and EDF Energy control 80 pct of the market, Ofgem said.
