BUZZ-Weir: choppy morning after update

** Engineer Weir up 2.6 pct, 3rd-top FTSE 100 riser in volatile trade which has seen stock flip between positive & negative territory in heavy volume

** While co posts 23 pct drop in oil & gas business orders in Q1 & expects decline to continue in Q2 amid oil price rout, shares weak into update (down c.11 pct since mid-April until Tues) which market participants argue is not as bad as feared

** Some, nonetheless, expect consensus expectations to fall further

** Co 9th-most shorted on the FTSE 100, with 5.6 pct of shares on loan, Markit (NasdaqGS: MRKT - news) data shows

** Bertie Thomson, senior investment manager of Aberdeen AM's Global-European Equity Fund, recently added to position in Weir; likes co's "razor blade model" of both selling products & providing a high degree of aftermarket service (RM (LSE: RM.L - news) : tricia.wright1.thomsonreuters.com@reuters.net)
