Is Cameron Diaz 'done' with acting to become a stay-at-home wife?

Have we seen the last of Cameron Diaz’s silly dance moves and megawatt smile on the big screen?

The 45-year-old actress, who dropped out of sight after marrying Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden in 2015, has “retired” from acting, her friend and The Sweetest Thing co-star Selma Blair reportedly said in a new interview with the U.K.’s Daily Star Sunday. Diaz, who is among the highest-grossing actresses of all time, is instead focused on her marriage to Madden and being a “stay-at-home wife,” the tabloid noted.

“I had lunch with Cameron the other day,” Blair said at an Oscars Vanity Fair pre-party. “We were reminiscing about [The Sweetest Thing]. I would have liked to do a sequel, but Cameron’s retired from acting. She’s like ‘I’m done.’”

Blair went on to say that Diaz, who became an overnight success at 21 when she appeared in The Mask with Jim Carrey, “doesn’t need to make any more films. She has a pretty great life; I don’t know what it would take to bring her back. She’s happy.”

While Blair later said that she was “making a joke” and that Cameron “is not retiring from anything” (more on that in a minute), the paper also had a source saying that the happiness is rooted in her marriage to Madden — and she walked away from Hollywood after saying “I do” to him. “Cameron is constantly inundated with film scripts trying to tempt her out of retirement, but she’s just not interested,” said the source. “She’s happy, in love, and wants to make the most of her freedom and free time.”

This follows a report in Us Weekly in January that said that Diaz, who has been trying to start a family with Madden, “hasn’t wanted to work. She is enjoying being at home and being a housewife. She would love more than anything to be a mom.”

This is the first we’ve heard of an actual retirement from Diaz, whose hit flicks include There’s Something About Mary, Charlie’s Angels, and Shrek. In June, she talked about a break from acting while sitting on a panel at the “In Goop Health” summit. “I just went, ‘I can’t really say who I am to myself,’ which is a hard thing to face up to,” said Diaz, who has written two books in the last few years but hasn’t been in a movie since 2014’s Annie. “I felt the need to make myself whole.” However, she didn’t use the word “retire.”

A rep for Diaz has not yet responded to multiple requests for comment. As for Blair, soon after her interview hit, she took to social media to clarify her comments.
