COVID-19 cases: Quebec sees largest daily case count, Ontario has a slight decrease in new COVID-19 cases

17,122 active COVID-19 cases in Canada: 168,960 diagnoses, 9,504 deaths and 142,334 recoveries (as of Oct. 6, 6:00 p.m. ET)

Armed forces reveal COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) reported 222 COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. Currently, 24 are active and 198 are resolved.

The Tuesday update indicated that “leadership is closely monitoring” the virus impact on the CAF.

Quebec continues to see record-breaking daily case counts

Quebec reported 1,364 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, the largest daily case count to date, bringing the cumulative total of cases in the province to 81,014.

The majority of new cases are in Montreal (329), the Quebec City region (265) and Laval (173). Most cases are people between the ages of 20 and 59. Individuals between the ages of 20 and 29 account for 16.3 per cent of cases, while people between the ages of 40 and 49 represent 14.6 per cent of cases.

The province is also reporting 17 new deaths. Three occurred in the last 24 hours, nine deaths occurred between September 29 and October 4, one occurred before September 29 and four deaths occurred at an unknown date.

Hospitalizations increased by 36 in the same timeframe, with five more people in ICU. There are currently 397 people in Quebec hospitals with COVID-19.

More than 500 new cases, 7 deaths reported in Ontario

Ontario reported 548 new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, with 201 cases from the Toronto area. Peel, Ottawa and York also continue to make up a large proportion of cases in the province.

Ontario is reporting 548 cases of #COVID19 as over 42,000 tests were completed. Locally, there are 201 new cases in Toronto, 90 in Peel, 62 in Ottawa and 56 in York Region. 61% of today’s cases are in people under the age of 40. There are 546 more resolved cases.

Of the new cases, 61 per cent of people with infections are under the age of 40.

An additional 546 people have recovered from COVID-19, bringing Ontario’s total resolved cases to 46,906, out of the 55,362 cumulative infections.

A total of 42,031 tests were completed in the last day, with 55,483 tests currently under investigation.

Seven new deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total deaths related to COVID-19 in the province to 2,987.

Four more possible exposure sites announced in Manitoba

The 24th COVID-19 death has been reported in Manitoba, a woman in her 70s previously linked to an outbreak in a communal living community.

A total of 56 new cases were identified on Tuesday, mostly in the Winnipeg region.

There are two additional possible exposures in school settings at Andrew Mynarski VC and Dufferin School, both in Winnipeg. There is no evidence of school transmission in both location but public health is reaching out to close contacts.

The province also announced possible exposures at the Mahihkan Bus Lines on Oct. 1 from Winnipeg northbound at 11:00 a.m. to Portage la Prairie, Dauphin, Swan River, Mafeking and The Pas.

There could also be exposures to COVID-19 at a Tim Horton’s in Beausejour on Sept. 28 from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Sept. 29 from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. Risk to the public is considered low.

Updates from the rest of Canada

British Columbia: There were 102 new cases reported in B.C. on Tuesday. There are 1,384 active cases of COVID-19 and 3,089 people who are under “active public health monitoring” after identified exposure to known cases. In B.C., there are 71 people in hospitals and 16 in ICU. Provincial officials also reported two new COVID-19 deaths.

New Brunswick: A new outbreak has been declared at the Notre-Dame Manor special-care home in Moncton. Two new cases have been identified in the facility, one individual between the ages of 70 and 79, and another individual between the ages of 80 and 89. All admissions and visits to the manor are on hold until further notice.

Nunavut: The Nunavut government announced there are nine positive cases of COVID-19 at Hope Bay Mine. There are also four additional presumptive positive cases that are pending confirmatory testing and 12 people remain in isolation.

Saskatchewan: There are 16 new COVID-19 cases in Saskatchewan, including six located in Saskatoon, three in the Central East area and two in Regina. There are currently two people in hospitals in the province, one in ICU and one receiving inpatient care.

Nova Scotia: No new cases were reported in Nova Scotia on Tuesday. There are currently three active cases in the province.

Newfoundland and Labrador: No new cases were reported in Newfoundland and Labrador on Tuesday. There are currently four active cases in the province.
