COVID-19 cases: Ontario COVID-19 cases fall under 600, Quebec finally sees slight drop in cases

17,916 active COVID-19 cases in Canada: 173,123 diagnoses, 9,541 deaths and 145,666 recoveries (as of Oct. 7, 6:00 p.m. ET)

  • Alberta - 1,910 active cases (19,354 total cases, including 281 deaths, 17,163 resolved)

  • British Columbia - 1,387 active cases (9,956 total cases, 244 deaths, 8,296 resolved)

  • Manitoba - 803 active cases (2,278 total cases, 27 deaths, 1,448 resolved)

  • New Brunswick - 22 active cases (222 cases, 2 deaths, 198 resolved)

  • Newfoundland and Labrador - 4 active case (277 total cases, 4 deaths, 269 resolved)

  • Northwest Territories - 0 active cases (5 total cases, 5 resolved)

Quebec sees first daily COVID-19 under 1,000 in days

Quebec reported 900 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total to 81,914.

The province confirmed one death in the past 24 hours, with four deaths occurring between Sept. 30 and Oct. 5, and two additional deaths at an unknown date.

There are 409 people in hospital, an increase of 12 from the previous day, and five more people are in intensive care.

A total of 67,735 have recovered from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Ontario COVID-19 cases remain under 600

Ontario reported 583 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, with 173 in Toronto, 121 in Ottawa, 75 in York Region and 70 in Peel.

A total of 60 per cent of the new cases are people under the age of 40.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Ontario has seen 55,945 COVID-19 cases, with 47,613 resolved.

There have been 2,988 deaths in the province, with one more death reported in the last 24 hours.

In the past day 43,277 tests were conducted in the province, with 55,413 currently under investigation.

New Brunswick sees jump in cases

New Brunswick reported a jump in cases on Wednesday, reporting 17 new cases of COVID-19 identified in the last 24 hours.

They are all in the Moncton region and linked to Notre-Dame Manor special-care home. The ages of these individuals range from people between the ages of 20 to 29, to people over the age of 90.

Each of these cases or staff and residents of the facility, or their close contacts.

Public Health has also identified potential public exposure at the Moncton Costco Optical Centre and at the Moncton St-Hubert restaurant. People who have visited these locations since Oct. 1 are being asked self-monitor for symptoms.

Updates from the rest of Canada

Manitoba: Three more deaths were reported in Manitoba on Wednesday, a female in her 90s from Winnipeg linked to the outbreak at Parkview Place, a male in his 70s from Winnipeg and a male is his 60s from the Interlake–Eastern health region linked to a communal living community. Provincial officials reported 32 new cases, the majority in Winnipeg. Two potential school exposures were also identified at École Charleswood School and St John’s Ravenscourt in Winnipeg. There is no evidence of in-school transmission at both of these locations.

Saskatchewan: There were 10 new COVID-19 cases reported in Saskatchewan on Wednesday, four in Saskatoon, three in Regina, one in the Central West region, one in the South East region and one in the Central East area. The Saskatchewan Health Authority has declared a multi-jurisdictional community transmitted outbreak associated with Full Gospel Outreach events in Prince Albert from Sept. 14 to Oct. 4. The contact tracing investigation currently involves 100 individuals across the province.

Nova Scotia: No new cases were reported in Nova Scotia on Wednesday. There are currently three active cases in the province.

Newfoundland and Labrador: No new cases were reported in Newfoundland and Labrador on Wednesday. There are currently four active cases in the province.

Prince Edward Island: No new cases were reported in P.E.I. on Wednesday.
