As if losing to Russia in horrific fashion wasn’t enough, Team Canada will be losing one of their veteran forwards due to a suspendable offense during the 6-0 loss.

19-year-old Joe Veleno has been issued a one-game suspension for headbutting Russian defenceman Danil Misyul during the second period of Saturday’s contest.

Veleno will miss Canada’s penultimate preliminary-round game against Germany on Monday, but will be able to return for the final game before the knockout round, against the Czech Republic on Tuesday.

The incident is in violation to IIHF Rule 142, that reads “a player who uses his head, with or without his helmet on, to strike an opponent.”

The Detroit Red Wings prospect has one assist through two games in the tournament.
