Yahoo Finance Capt. Tom Moore, 100, Hospitalized with Coronavirus After Raising Millions for COVID-19 Relief

Captain Tom Moore has been hospitalized with COVID-19.
The 100-year-old British World War II veteran, who raised millions for U.K.'s National Health Service last year, was admitted to Bedford Hospital on Sunday, his daughter Hannah Ingram-Moore said in a statement on his Twitter account.
"I want to update everybody that today (Sunday 31st January) my father was admitted to the hospital," she wrote. "Over the last few weeks he was being treated for pneumonia and last week tested positive for COVID-19."
Ingram-Moore continued, "He was at home with us until today when he needed additional help with his breathing. He is being treated in a ward, although he is not in ICU."
Ingram-Moore also said her father's medical care over the last few weeks has been "remarkable and we know that the wonderful staff at Bedford Hospital will do all they can to make him comfortable and hopefully return home as soon as possible."
"We understand that everyone will be wishing him well," she added. "We are of course focusing on my father and will update you when we are able to."

Last April, Moore raised over $40 million for the U.K.'s National Health Service by walking 100 laps in his backyard garden ahead of his 100th birthday.
He later received an astonishing 125,000 birthday cards from people all over the globe, including messages from Prince William and Kate Middleton, former Olympian Kelly Holmes, English football star Harry Kane and Queen Elizabeth.
In July, Moore was knighted by Queen Elizabeth on the grassy grounds of Windsor Castle. She used the sword that belonged to her father, King George VI, and walked about eight paces to stand before Moore and touch both his shoulders with the blade.

Born in Keighley, Yorkshire, Moore attended Keighley Grammar School before earning an apprenticeship as a civil engineer, a description on his JustGiving page reads. At the beginning of World War II, he was enlisted in the 8 DWR (145 RAC) of the British army.
He was later selected for officer training in 1940 and went on to serve in India, Indonesia and England, the page notes.
After his wife Pamela died in 2006, Moore moved in with Ingram-Moore, her husband and their two children in Bedfordshire, CNN reported.
