Workers rushed to the aid of drivers after car crash
Workers on a building site rushed to the aid of two drivers after a car crash in Weymouth.
A collision between two cars on Dorchester Road left one car overturned.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to come forward following the crash.
Dorset Police received a report at 8.03 am on Friday 31 March 2023 of a collision in Dorchester Road in Upwey involving a blue Volkswagen Golf and a black Nissan Qashqai.
The Golf reportedly overturned as a result of the collision and officers were assisted at the scene by the fire service and the ambulance service.
Road closures were put in place as the emergency services responded to the incident and two people were taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that were not believed to be serious.
The road was cleared at around 9.35 am.
Sam Foot, a plumber who was working on the building site, said he watched the whole crash unfold whilst checking ongoing traffic.
Sam said: "We were in the work van, my colleague told me to watch the road while he reversed into the drive.
"I turned and looked and saw the cars crash right in front of me.
“So we got straight out of the van and ran over to help.
“Some of the labourers hopped over the fence, we had to help someone out of one of the cars.
“It was very busy, obviously I just rushed to make sure everyone was ok, it was a bit of a shock."
Police Constable Jamie Ralphs, of Weymouth police, said: “We are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of this collision, and I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please get in touch.
“I would also like to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything relevant on dashcam footage, as well as residents with home CCTV or doorbell camera footage that could assist our investigation.
“Finally, I appreciate this incident resulted in the closure of a busy road during the morning rush hour. The closure was absolutely necessary to allow the emergency services to respond and I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while it was in place.”
