Supermodel Cara Delevingne shared a photograph of her grandmother Angela Delevingne with a young Prince Philip taken on a beach in Venice in 1938.

According to Page Six, the photograph was taken by Delevingne’s grandfather Edward, not long after their wedding. The newlyweds had met the future Duke of Edinburgh while on vacation in Italy.

Poppy Delevingne, the English model’s sister also shared the photograph on Instagram with the caption: “A 17-year-old Prince Philip & my Grandmother in Venice, 1938. My cousins remember her saying ‘That after meeting him, she thought he’d make someone a very good husband one day.’ How right she was.”

The photo was a year before Philip met 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth at the Royal Naval College, though it would be several more years before their relationship began.

The royal couple wedded in 1947. The Prince died “peacefully” in Windsor Castle on 9 April 2021, and is the longest-serving regal member in British history.

The Royal Family said in a statement: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.”

Angela Delevingne was born in South Kensington and was the daughter of Canadian-born British lawyer and politician Sir Hamar Greenwood and his wife, Margery Spencer.

She married Edward Dudley Delevingne in 1937, and the pair were together for 37 years until his death in 1974. Angela passed away in 2015 at the age of 102.
