Cardi B spurns TikTok's holy grail acne-fighting skincare: 'My face was so dry and it burn[s]'

Cardi B shared her acne struggles on Twitter, asking fans and fellow celebrities for any skincare advice that could help her out.

Famous people really are just like us!

The 28-year-old rapper explained that she'd been experiencing breakouts for three months and couldn't figure out if it was related to the products she was using or the water in California, where she is currently staying. Typically, she resides in either New York or Atlanta.

She also shared a photo calling the breakout on her cheek "really uncomfortable."

As countless recommendations poured in, Cardi B also shared her unfiltered opinions on the super popular Cetaphil and CeraVe skincare lines — both of which have a massive fanbase on TikTok.

"My mom loves [Cetaphil]," Cardi B said in response to another user's tweet. "I don’t really like it I don’t feel like it cleans my face right."

She also mentioned that Clinique products had helped her occasionally, although they weren't doing much for her dry skin.

Some Twitter users flagged a potential cause: The fact that Cardi shared that her dermatologist had recently recommended she start using retinol.

Retinol increases cell turnover and increases the purging of pores. Because of this, a lot of retinol users can experience dryness or skin purging — a reaction from increased cell turnover that can look like a breakout — during the first few weeks of use.

"[The dermatologist] said it will take 3 months but I don’t got time for that and didn’t give me a reason on why I’m breaking out," Cardi added. "I never broke out on my cheeks and chin [before]."

Breaking out in unusual places is typically the result of a bad reaction to a product, not skin purging.

Singer Kehlani recommended a Los Angeles-based facialist and Cardi tweeted that she would give her fans an update in two weeks.
