Casualty – 6 questions ahead of next week's series finale

Casualty spoilers follow from tonight's episode and next week's episode – and they're pretty major ones, too.

Surely Casualty can't have just left us with that cliffhanger? But it can, and it did. True to form, the BBC medical drama is marking the end of its current series with a whopper of a two-parter kicking off tonight (July 31), which is focused around Fenisha and Ethan's wedding.

In typical Casualty style, it was never going to go entirely to plan and tonight's episode ended with a car skidding out of control onto a train track, in view of a horrified Lev. But who will be the victims of the series finale tragedy? Will Ethan and Fenisha get married? And what's next for Faith and Lev?

Here's all the major questions we've been left with:

1. Who dies?

The biggest question on everyone's list right now (including ours): who will be the victim of next week's explosive finale?

It's no secret that Casualty likes to bump off a character in its series climax – and it's likely that at least one of the ED clan won't be making it into the next series. But who was actually in the car, and will they be okay?

That remains to be seen, but let's also not forget that Lev was on the scene of the accident and won't be able to resist rushing to the injured victim's aid. His on-off lover Xander was also in touching distance of the accident, while Matthew had offered to drive Fenisha to the wedding.

So many questions, but not so many answers – and be prepared for a couple of other monumental twists along the way, too…

2. Will Fenisha make it to the wedding?

Come on, it's Casualty and so we all knew that Ethan and Fenisha's wedding was unlikely to run smoothly. But the question now is: will it even go ahead at all?

Fenisha was already running late to her nuptials when she accepted a lift from her ex-boyfriend Matthew (as you do) – and sadly, but not entirely unsurprisingly, their journey is destined to go sour.

With Matthew preparing to fight for a future with Fenisha, their vehicle is currently a strong contender for the perilous road accident, if we were to hedge our bets. So, will Fenisha even make it to her big day at all? Or will Ethan be left at the altar?

3. What will Ethan be told?

Ethan's world will be turned upside down next week, after he finally faces his future and seeks answers about how fast his Huntington's is progressing.

Fans will have to wait and see what exactly Ethan is told in his appointment, but it's fair to say that his life is never going to be the same again either way.

4. What next for Faith?

Casualty's epic two-parter marks a major turning point in Lev's ongoing story, and his marriage to Faith.

Knowing that Lev has gone to the police station to admit the truth about the assault on Sam, Faith couldn't be prouder of her estranged husband and thinks it's the bravest thing he's ever done.

After filling her colleagues in on her situation with Lev next week, Faith claims she's happy for him, but Iain can tell she's secretly feeling very lonely. He attempts to cheer her up with his banter, until a phone call stops them in their tracks. But is there a possible spark with Iain and Faith? And what does the future hold for her now?

5. Is Dylan right about Ollie?

Dylan was finally able to provide some answers into the mystery surrounding Ollie's troublesome symptoms tonight, but it was clear that he wasn't entirely convinced.

After noticing a cut on Ollie's arm, Dylan felt that a mental health assessment is the next logical step for the teenager, much to David's fury.

When a subsequent MRI revealed that Ollie was suffering Chiari malformation (a condition where the lower part of the brain pushes down into the spinal canal), David was confident that was the cause for all his symptoms – but Dylan remained palpably unsure. Could his initial suspicions still be correct? And will they be able to support Ollie, if they are?

Ollie's story will be parked for the time being after tonight's episode, as Dylan will have even bigger things to focus on, but let's hope it gets picked up again in the next series.

6. What happens next?

Next week's unmissable episode is one you won't be forgetting in a hurry, with multiple game-changing moments that will transform the ED forever.

While further details are under wraps at the moment (keep your eyes peeled next weekend!), this episode will ultimately set the scenes for Casualty's 35th anniversary celebrations shortly after.

As previously confirmed, Casualty is marking its 35th year by going back in time for a one-off episode, where the team in the Emergency Department is faced with a chain of events that will change the course of their future.

Tony Marshall, Charles Dale, and Richard Winsor – AKA Noel, Big Mac, and Cal – have reprised their roles for the Ethan-centric episode...but why are they back? And what will it mean?

Casualty's series finale episode will air on Saturday, August 7 on BBC One.
