Casualty star Adele James hints at Connie shock return story

Only joining Casualty as Tina Mollett last year, actress Adele James immediately inserted herself in some major drama on the BBC medical soap.

Her character quite recently started dating Jacob (Charles Venn), not long after his long-term love interest Connie (Amanda Mealing) left the show.

While fans initially didn't warm up to this coupling, Adele is feeling positive about her character's blooming romance.

"Jacob has been struggling romantically with Connie for such a long time, and it's really encouraging and cathartic to see him happy with Tina," she said in a recent interview with Inside Soap.

She continued: "Jacob now has someone who loves him openly and unapologetically, and it’s wonderful to be a part of.

"Although, the 'Jonnie' fans were out in full force when my scenes first aired! But I have to say, people seem to be softening towards Tina, because they can see she really does care for Jacob."

Confronted with a scenario in which Time would have to fight Connie over Jacob, the actress said: "Tina could hold her own against Connie!"

"It would be a hard fight, as Connie and Jacob have a rich history, and that’s hard to contend with. But then again, Jacob and Tina have a good thing going.

The actress then added of her former colleague: "Amanda Mealing is formidable, that has to be said, and she's been so wonderful to work with. Connie is scary on screen, but Amanda is an absolute babe off it – I miss having her on set!"

Amanda took an extended break from the show at the beginning of April with her character making a low-key exit.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the time, the long-time Casualty star addressed the possibility of a return saying: "We've agreed to talk in six months so we'll see how it goes. I'm busy directing other things at the moment."

We hope she'll decide to come back.

Casualty airs on BBC One.
