Cavaliers announce Kevin Love will miss 3 to 4 weeks due to calf injury

The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without one of their best players for some time. Kevin Love will miss three to four weeks after injuring his calf during Sunday’s game, the team announced Tuesday.

Love, 32, originally suffered the injury during the first game of the preseason. He missed the Cavaliers’ season opener while recovering from the issue. Love was able to return for the team’s second game, where he put up 15 points and 9 rebounds in 37 minutes. Love lasted just under 9 minutes in the following game after aggravating the injury.

The team performed an MRI on Love’s calf Monday, which revealed the extent of the injury. The Cavaliers will reevaluate the injury in a few weeks, and update Love’s status.

Can the Cavaliers still trade Kevin Love?

For years, Love has been mentioned as a trade candidate. While rumors have persisted, Love has remained with the Cavaliers for seven seasons. In 2018, Love signed a four-year, $120 million extension to stay with the franchise.

Despite that, trade rumors could once again pop up as long as Love is able to return in that 3-4 week timetable. The NBA trade deadline was moved to early March during the 2021 NBA season, giving Love plenty of time to show teams he’s over the injury once he returns.
