CEIBA Investments (LON:CBA) shareholders have endured a 68% loss from investing in the stock five years ago

Statistically speaking, long term investing is a profitable endeavour. But unfortunately, some companies simply don't succeed. Zooming in on an example, the CEIBA Investments Limited (LON:CBA) share price dropped 70% in the last half decade. That's an unpleasant experience for long term holders. And it's not just long term holders hurting, because the stock is down 22% in the last year.

It's worthwhile assessing if the company's economics have been moving in lockstep with these underwhelming shareholder returns, or if there is some disparity between the two. So let's do just that.

Check out our latest analysis for CEIBA Investments

CEIBA Investments isn't currently profitable, so most analysts would look to revenue growth to get an idea of how fast the underlying business is growing. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

A Different Perspective

Investors in CEIBA Investments had a tough year, with a total loss of 22%, against a market gain of about 8.7%. Even the share prices of good stocks drop sometimes, but we want to see improvements in the fundamental metrics of a business, before getting too interested. Regrettably, last year's performance caps off a bad run, with the shareholders facing a total loss of 11% per year over five years. Generally speaking long term share price weakness can be a bad sign, though contrarian investors might want to research the stock in hope of a turnaround. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand CEIBA Investments better, we need to consider many other factors. Even so, be aware that CEIBA Investments is showing 2 warning signs in our investment analysis , and 1 of those shouldn't be ignored...
