Celebrities Prove You’re Never Too Young to Give Back

Hollywood’s 21-and-under set may have a reputation for partying, but this group of young actors and influencers prove you’re never too young to give back to the community.

On Tuesday, Variety held it’s Power of Young Hollywood event, presented by PixHug. Honorees Bethany Mota, Elle Fanning, Jaden Smith and Cameron Dallas took to the stage to talk about causes close to their hearts.

“Modern Family” star Ariel Winter introduced the honorees, speaking about her involvement with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where she volunteers in the children’s playroom.

Bethany Mota’s philanthropy stemmed from her own person experiences. The YouTube personality began posting online as a result of cyberbullying. On the red carpet, she admitted it took a long time to figure out how to deal with the constant criticism. “Whenever someone’s bullying me I think, what’s going on with this person,” explained Mota. “There has to be something going on in their lives that makes them not want to spread positivity. So it’s almost an opportunity to help someone rather than letting it affect you.”

Bethany has helped others by joining PACER, a group that teaches bullying prevention. Her speech received one of biggest reactions of the night:

Jaden Smith’s cause was environmental. The actor wanted to make a bottle of water “for the people,” but more importantly, “for the world.” The actor’s famous father — Will Smith — is also heavily involved with Just Water.

Like Winter, Cameron Dallas’ charity benefits children — in this case, foster children. Together We Rise has raised $125,000 to provide foster children with supplies, and even cars when they emancipate so they can go to school or work.

Presenting sponsor PixHug played on the old adage that “a picture is worth a thousand words.”

“In this case, a picture can be worth a thousand blankets. A thousand meals,” cofounder Mido DeSanti explained. Each “like” a photo will result in a 10 cent donation to a specific campaign. “We wanted people to become philanthropists by simply sharing a photograph,” he added.

With a social media reach of 18 million on Twitter alone, these young Hollywood stars hope to inspire their followers into philanthropic action.
