The following article contains a discussion of sexual misconduct allegations that some readers may find upsetting.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins star and ex-footballer Kieron Dyer has opened up about being sexually abused by a family member as a child.

After taking part in the 'redman' challenge on the show where the recruits engage in hand-to-hand combat against their trainers, Dyer really went for it against Jason Fox.

In a chat with trainers after the challenge and after a bit of gentle prodding that something might be bothering him, Dyer opened up about how it had an effect on his whole life.

"Obviously, that's the frustration and anger coming out. I didn't want to go on about sob stories or accomplishments, I wanted you to judge me from a clean slate, and yeah, I was a victim of sexual abuse when I was a kid.

"I was 11 or 12 from a family member and this monster, well this f**king p**k turned me into a monster, and for the rest of my life the amount of people I've hurt because of these personality traits. Like family, dad, mum, wife, you can go on and on. I always had the mindset of do you know what, 'cause I'm a victim, this is the way I am.

"I have just learned today when I come out of here, I'm not a victim of sexual abuse no more, because every time I'm a victim, he wins. Every time I hurt my family and they're victims, he wins. I'm not a victim no more."

He added: "The worry I have now is that even though I have this mindset, can I get to the end?

In his interview later the former Newcastle United and England footballer said he revealed the abuse around eight years ago while in therapy and it just all came out. He admitted he's still working through it all, but he's "making ground" in his issues.

Due to cracking his ribs earlier in the episode, then making his injury even worse during the 'redman' challenge, he was medically withdrawn from the competition.

Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues on Channel 4 next Sunday (September 26) at 9pm.
