Cheap Mother's Day deals and discounts

We look at some of the top offers, deals and discounts for treating your mum this Sunday…

Mother's Day needn't cost a fortune
Mother's Day needn't cost a fortune

We’ve rounded up some of the best Mother’s Day deals and discounts, so you can show your mum you care without spending a fortune. Here are the best bargains we’ve spotted, do share your favourites with other readers using the comments below.

M&S Sunday lunch for £20

If your mum has cooked you more dinners than you’ve had, erm, hot dinners, then you could always rustle up a Sunday lunch for her. But if you’re better at eating than cooking, then you might want to consider this Mother’s Day M&S family roast.

You can choose a joint of meat, either beef, outdoor-bred pork or honey gammon; and two large side dishes, including large roasting potatoes, carrot & swede crush or honey & mustard parsnips. On top of that you get a family pudding – either sticky toffee pudding, a stack of profiteroles or a chocolate brownie traybake, and a bottle of wine.

It’s all ready to go straight in the oven or serve, so you won’t need to worry about peeling or chopping. Best of all, it’s just £20 for the lot.

Free First Class train upgrade and bubbles

Are you catching a Virgin train with your mum on Sunday? Maybe you’re off for a day out, or a spot of shopping. Well, the first 100 passengers to tweet a picture of themselves on a train with their mums will be given an on-the-spot first class upgrade. Just use the hashtag #firstclassmum to qualify.

Even better, your mum will be given a glass of Prosecco as you relax in the luxury end of the train. Each upgraded mum can take a party of up to three with her to first class, as long as everyone has a standard ticket to travel.

Flowers

The website couponshop has a code that gives you more than 40% off two large bouquets at Debenhams. Both the Special Mum and Darcy bouquets normally cost £34.99 plus £4.99 in postage. However, at the moment they can be bought for just £19.99, plus £4.99 P&P if you use the code COUPONSHOP40 at the checkout.

When you order a Mother’s Day bouquet from Prestige Flowers your mum will also get a free 50g box of Belgian chocolates. There’s also £10 off many of the pricier displays, meaning you can pay as little as £19.99 for a bunch of lilies and roses, plus the chocolates – a deal that normally sells for £34.99.

Many retailers mark up their flowers come Mother’s Day, as demand lets them charge more. But at budget supermarket Aldi you can get a 30-stem bunch of tulips for just a fiver. Beautiful, simple and it won’t break the bank. There’s also a large bouquet of tulips available for £6 from Lidl.

Afternoon tea for two, for £17

You can spend crazy money on an afternoon tea treat, especially if it’s in a major city and comes with champagne. But really, all you want is a simple tasty sandwich, cake and cup of tea with your mum – and ASDA has a voucher for that costing just £17.

There are 10 locations across the UK for this treat, most of which are charming country hotels. At £8.50 a person you can both enjoy afternoon tea without breaking the bank. And because it’s a voucher, you don’t have to rush out on Sunday when everywhere is rammed – you can save it for a more relaxed afternoon.

Time

Of course, not everyone can afford to spend as much as £20 or more on their mum this weekend. It’s easy to feel under pressure to spend a fortune on flowers, chocolates, wine and everything else. But if you don’t have the cash to spend, your mum almost certainly won’t want you to.

Traditionally, Mothering Sunday was a day when people working away from their birth place were given the day off to return to their mother church and visit their families. On the way home they might pick wild flowers to give to their mothers, and this turned into the tradition of giving presents.

So why not go for a more traditional approach to Mothering Sunday and simply visit your mum? Although, if you plan on picking wild flowers for her then make sure they are actually wild, not endangered and don’t uproot the whole plant – there’s police guidance here
