'Cheer dad' roots for daughter in sweet, viral clip

Every parent wants to be a cheerleader for their kids, but this dad took it to a whole new level.

Hekili Holland's daughter, Mackenzi, is a high school cheerleader in Yorktown, Virginia and Holland was in the stands at a football game on Nov. 1 when he got up and started dancing along with his daughter and the rest of the cheerleaders during the school's fight song.

The original video, which was uploaded to Facebook, has generated more than 3.5 million views.

In the clip, Holland can be seen enthusiastically following performing in sync as the cheerleading team dances on the field. According to ABC News, this is not the first time he's danced in the stands — he's come to be known as "cheer dad" at the school for the last couple of weeks.

"The band plays and the girls perform it after every touchdown or score," Holland told ABC News. "I was trying to learn it by watching the cheerleaders. But Mackenzi finally taught me one day. I’ve always loved the atmosphere of high school and college football. The band, the excitement, everything. It just another way to have fun and show support."

There are more than 10,000 positive comments on the video. Neither Holland nor Scott Willard, the man who filmed and uploaded the clip, intended for the dance to go viral.

"If this brings joy to folks then I'm happy to be that guy," Holland said.
