Chemical Leak After Freight Train Derails
A freight train has derailed in Washington DC, spilling hazardous liquids near a rail station.
Several cars came off the tracks near Rhode Island Avenue Metro Station on Sunday morning.
Emergency services have not said what chemicals have been spilled from the CSX train.
NBC4 Television said one of the leaking chemicals is sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda.
CSX Corp said its workers are at the scene, and no injuries have been reported.
Chris Nellum, whose home looks directly over the tracks, said: "I thought it was like a semi-truck coming toward the building and when I looked out the window, I saw cars piling up. It was jarring."
Nearby roads have been closed.
The reason for the crash is not yet known.
