Cheniere Louisiana Sabine Pass LNG terminal back at full service

June 15 (Reuters) - The amount of natural gas expected to flow to Cheniere Energy Inc (Frankfurt: 580884 - news) 's Sabine Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal in Louisiana increased to the plant's full capacity on Friday, according to Thomson Reuters (Dusseldorf: TOC.DU - news) data.

The amount of gas flowing to the plant was expected to rise to 2.9 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) on Friday from an average of around 2.2 bcfd for the past month or so, the data showed.

One billion cubic feet of gas is enough to fuel about five million U.S. homes for a day.

On Wednesday, energy data provider Genscape said its infrared imagery of the facility picked up heat signatures that indicate Sabine Train 3, which had not been operating since May 16 due to suspected maintenance, started returning to service Tuesday night.

Officials at Cheniere said they do not usually comment on plant operations.

Before Train 3 went off line, the Reuters data showed that the amount of gas flowing to Sabine Pass averaged about 2.9 bcfd during the first half of May.

Sabine Pass was the first big LNG export facility to enter service in the Lower 48 U.S. states in February 2016. There are currently four liquefaction trains in service at Sabine, each capable of processing about 0.7-bcfd of gas, and one under construction. Cheniere also has a sixth train in development at the plant.

Total U.S. export capacity is expected to rise to 3.9 bcfd by the end of 2018, 8.7 bcfd by the end of 2019 and 10.1 bcfd by the end of 2020 from 3.8 bcfd now, which should make the country the third-biggest LNG exporter by capacity in 2019.

Cheniere, which is the biggest buyer of gas in the United (Shenzhen: 000925.SZ - news) States, has agreements to sell LNG from Sabine to units of Royal Dutch Shell Plc, Gas Natural SDG SA, Korea Gas (KSE: 036460.KS - news) Corp, Gail (India) Ltd (BSE: GAIL.BO - news) , Total SA (Paris: FR0000120271 - news) and Centrica Plc (Frankfurt: A0DK6K - news) .
