Whilst it may not be a huge deal, we thought it was good to see that the Burford Capital Limited (LON:BUR) Chief Investment Officer, Jonathan Molot, recently bought UK£46k worth of stock, for UK£8.34 per share. Although the purchase is not a big one, by either a percentage standpoint or absolute value, it can be seen as a good sign.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At Burford Capital

In fact, the recent purchase by Chief Investment Officer Jonathan Molot was not their only acquisition of Burford Capital shares this year. Earlier in the year, they paid UK£4.83 per share in a UK£242k purchase. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (UK£6.92), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Does Burford Capital Boast High Insider Ownership?

Another way to test the alignment between the leaders of a company and other shareholders is to look at how many shares they own. I reckon it's a good sign if insiders own a significant number of shares in the company. Burford Capital insiders own 8.8% of the company, currently worth about UK£133m based on the recent share price. I like to see this level of insider ownership, because it increases the chances that management are thinking about the best interests of shareholders.
