Chiefs focusing on getting Andy Reid his 1st Super Bowl win

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid is only missing a Super Bowl victory from his resume and his players are hell-bent on ensuring that he lifts the Lombardi Trophy for the first time on Sunday.

“Yeah, we want to do it. We want to go out there. We want to play our best football,” Patrick Mahomes said to NFL Network’s Michael Irvin. “We know we're playing a great opponent but we're going to try to win the game. Get one for Coach Reid. Get one for Kansas City and get one for everybody.”

Reid previously served as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles (1995-2012), taking the team to four consecutive NFC Championship Game appearances. Philadelphia lost narrowly to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX and 15 years afterwards, Reid is now finally making his next Super Bowl appearance.

“I think Coach Reid deserves one. He's one of the top coaches in this league. He's on the top coaches I've ever had and I think himself in general and this organization deserve a ring,” Chiefs receiver Sammy Watkins said via NFL.com.

“I think everyone on this team deserves one. I think we've played well and went through all the trials and tribulations and injuries and stuff like that and we've played the best as a team. So I think if anyone deserves one, we do.”

Reid was also quick to pass on his condolences to Kobe Bryant’s family, after the former Los Angeles Lakers legend and his 13-year-old daughter were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash Sunday.

Boasting a career .618 winning percentage as a head coach, few people are more qualified than Reid to win it all. Standing in his way are the San Francisco 49ers and their robust defence. It should be a game for the ages and Reid will be fully deserving if his team can knock off the NFC champs on Sunday.
