Updated article on 15/04/21: Chrissy Teigen has made a U-turn and returned to Twitter, admitting that she hated silencing herself and losing her 'friends'.
Three weeks after she announced she was quitting Twitter (more on that below), the TV presenter and model made a surprise return on the social media platform on Friday.
'turns out it feels TERRIBLE to silence yourself and also no longer enjoy belly chuckles randomly throughout the day and also lose like 2000 friends at once lol, [sic]’ she tweeted.
‘I choose to take the bad with the good!!’

The mother-of-two then joked that she has spent the last three weeks 'just saying tweets to shampoo bottles’.
In less than two hours since announcing her return, her first Tweet on the platform on Friday has already received more than 18,000 'likes' and 2,600 comments.

Welcome back, Chrissy. We've missed you!
Original article published on 25/03/21: Chrissy Teigen has announced that she is leaving Twitter for good.
Teigen, who has become synonymous with the app thanks to her comical interactions with fans and critics and speaking out on important issues such as motherhood and politics, announced her decision to leave the social media platform on Wednesday after years of dealing negativity from others.
'Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends, [sic]' wrote the 35-year-old cookbook author in a thread of tweets.
'But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.'
The mother-of-two, went on to explain how she just wants to make people 'happy' with her fun tweets, but that the negativity on the social media platform has now taken too much of a toll on her mental health.
'My life goal is to make people happy. The pain I feel when I don’t is too much for me. I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not. My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters. Please know all I ever cared about was you!!!,' she added.

She encouraged her followers to never forget that their words matter and wrote that, for years, she has taken 'punches' on social media that have left her feeling 'deeply bruised'.
'I have made my mistakes, throughout years and in front of hundreds of thousands, and been held accountable for them. I’ve learned an incredible amount here, God I have said f–ked up s-t and killed myself over it as much as you killed me. But one thing I haven’t learned is how to block out the negativity,' she noted.
She then concluded, noting that she has had a love-hate relationship with the social media platform.
'I’m just a sensitive s–t, okay!? I don’t wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you,' she wrote, before adding a heart emoji.
At the time of her departure, Teigen had 13.7 million followers. Shortly afterwards, a search for her handle @chrissyteigen showed a page with a message that reads: 'This account doesn’t exist.'
The model, who was informally crowned the 'Mayor of Twitter', has one of Twitter's most famous and outspoken users over the past decade and, despite taking a break from the platform on several occasions, has never formally stepped away from Twitter altogether.
Last May, the star made her Twitter account private and announced that she was taking a break from social media after she became embroiled in 'drama' with a fellow cook.
The break came after Teigen took to Twitter to respond to comments made about her and her culinary business by Alison Roman, a food writer for cookbooks and outlets like The New York Times and a chef.
In an interview at the time with New Consumer, Roman took aim at Teigen's Cravings business expansion, saying: 'What Chrissy Teigen has done is so crazy to me. She had a successful cookbook. And then it was like: Boom, line at Target. Boom, now she has an Instagram page that has over a million followers where it’s just, like, people running a content farm for her.'
In response, the cookbook author and kitchenware mogul, wrote on Twitter: 'I don't think I've ever been so bummed out by the words of a fellow food-lover, I just had no idea I was perceived that way, by her especially. [sic]'
After Teigen shared her thoughts on Roman's interview, the food writer apologised to the TV presenter on Twitter, and noted that she regretted using both Teigen and Marie Kondo as examples in the interview, calling her actions 'careless and insensitive'.
I’ve thought a lot this weekend about my interview and the things I said. I know this is a lengthy note (succinctness has never been my strong suit). I appreciate you taking the time to read. pic.twitter.com/3iGAyN3c9d

More uplifting moments of Teigen's twitter reign include her understandable excitement over being one few on President Joe Biden's followed list earlier this year, her hilarious Twitter exchange with a fan over lettuce during lockdown, and a beautiful shutdown of critics following Meghan Markle's essay detailing her miscarriage last year.
