Following a month of silence on social media, after a series of old, cruel tweets directed at Courtney Stodden (a minor at the time), Chrissy Teigen has returned to Twitter to share a lengthy apology. In the 1,100 word write-up, Chrissy says she has spent a 'humbling' few weeks reaching out to people privately to apologise for her behaviour, as well as discussing her issues in therapy.

Beginning her statement, Chrissy writes, "I want you to know I’ve been sitting in a hole of deserved global punishment, the ultimate 'sit here and think about what you’ve done'. Not a day, not a single moment has passed where I haven’t felt the crushing weight of regret for the things I’ve said in the past."

She added that Courtney - who in some tweets she even wished death upon - was not the only person to fall victim to her comments and messages.

"I’ve apologized publicly to one person, but there are others — and more than just a few — who I need to say I’m sorry to," says Chrissy. "I’m in the process of privately reaching out to the people I insulted. I understand that they may not want to speak to me... But if they do, I am here and I will listen to what they have to say, while apologizing through sobs."

Continuing on, Chrissy then acknowledged the distress she'd caused and explained that with hindsight, she can now see many of the people she targeted needed help, rather than further pain inflicting upon them. "Many of them needed empathy, kindness, understanding and support, not my meanness masquerading as a kind of casual, edgy humor."

She then labelled herself as a troll, apologised once more and said she was attempting to seem relatable in some instances: "I was a troll, full stop. And I am so sorry... In reality, I was insecure, immature and in a world where I thought I needed to impress strangers to be accepted. If there was a pop culture pile-on, I took to Twitter to try to gain attention and show off what I at the time believed was a crude, clever, harmless quip. I thought it made me cool and relatable if I poked fun at celebrities."

Bringing things back to the present day, Chrissy said she's no longer the same person who spread hate on Twitter and that she will strive to be better still going forwards. "The truth is, I’m no longer the person who wrote those horrible things. I grew up, got therapy, got married, had kids, got more therapy, experienced loss and pain, got more therapy and experienced more life."

She added, "I have so much love to give if you are open and willing to accept it. And if not, that’s okay too. That’s something I work on being more okay with every day... I’m going to take some more time to focus on things that are most important — being with my family and taking care of myself. We are all more than our worst moments."

In response to her post, many have shared words of encouragement and praised Chrissy for recognising her mistakes and owning them. "I believe in redemption, I believe in second chances and I believe in you @chrissyteigen ❤️❤️," commented stylist Dave Thomas on Instagram.

"The trolling that you are receiving is also uncalled for. I see you and respect you," added actress Zoe Saldana, while fellow movie star Jennifer Garner simply left a heart emoji. Close friend and hair mogul Jen Atkin wrote, "I really love empathetic and compassionate Chrissy. We are all works in progress and I love you OG Luna".

However, others said they were unsure. "I hope you mean what you said. Only time will tell," commented one social media users, generating over 800 likes.

Another added, "I hope she remembers this next time she tries to point out everyone else’s flaws and blast them all over social media."

Shortly after Chrissy's apology, fashion designer Michael Costello also took to social media to say that Chrissy once called him a racist on Instagram after a series of screenshots - which he says were proven as Photoshopped - were circulated.

Michael also uploaded screengrabs of what looks to be DMs between him and Chrissy in which he asks her if they can speak on the phone and expresses his mental distress to little avail. The designer then alleges that he lost work because of Chrissy and had multiple doors shut in his face.

"As a result of what Chrissy Teigen did to me in 2014, I am not okay," he writes. "I may never be okay, but today I am choosing to speak my truth."

Chrissy is yet to comment on Michael's accusations.
