Christopher Nolan's Tenet has been delayed yet again in the US due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Warner Bros and Nolan had hoped that the time-meddling espionage thriller, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, would be one of the first blockbusters to welcome audiences back to cinemas, but a spike in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the US has pushed back its release date even further.

It's unclear what this means for Tenet's release in the UK and the rest of the world, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film could now be released outside of the US first.

"Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theatre partners with new content as soon as they could safely reopen," Warner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in a statement.

"We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet, Christopher Nolan's wholly original and mind-blowing feature.

"We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that."

This is the third time that the film's release date has been pushed back, having originally aimed for July 17, then July 31 and most recently August 12.

Warner Bros is expected to announce a new release date for Tenet in the US soon.
