Yahoo Finance Citymapper launches membership subscription with new features and no ads
Citymapper has launched a paid-for membership-subscription option called Citymapper CLUB, which gives members access to premium features and removes ads.
The navigation app currently remains free to use, with the subscription service offering members exclusive benefits, such as customised-route options and a voice-assistant feature.
Citymapper, which is popular with London commuters, is available in hundreds of cities across the world, including major UK cities such as Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Nottingham, Cardiff, Bristol, and Newcastle.

Citymapper CLUB’s exclusive features
Citymapper CLUB provides members with extra routing options, including bus-only routes, train routes, mixed public and private transport routes, simple routes with fewer transfers, and cheapest routes.
It also comes with a voice-assistant feature that will read turn-by-turn instructions while they’re walking, taking public transport, or cycling.
Other exclusive features include a telescope feature that allows you to see a place before you arrive, and a rain-warning feature.
Plus, members can use custom-app icons, replace the blu location dot with an emoji, and use augmented reality within the app.
How much is Citymapper CLUB?
Citymapper CLUB costs £2.99 a month or £19.99 a year.
Citymapper intends to keep the app free and will only charge for access to the premium features, but also says “please bear with us as we experiment and find the right balance”.
Why is Citymapper charging customers?
In a statement, Citymapper said: “Following the pandemic, our user base has returned and is growing, increasing our server and staff costs.
“We now support over 400 cities, have integrated hundreds of mobility providers, built proprietary data tools and hired data analysts to provide superior information in all of our cities.
“We want to keep the app free for you and millions of users without relying on investors. To do this we must introduce advertising and paid features.”
The statement went on to say: “We obsess about building a great product and fulfilling our mission of getting people around cities using sustainable transportation. We only spend on core expenses like staff and servers (and ok, some overpriced coffee maybe).
“Your support will help us continue to develop the best product, with the best data, and expand to more cities, so that nobody will ever be lost again.”
