Collin Morikawa loses control of Wanamaker Trophy at PGA Championship

Collin Morikawa had a flawless Sunday on the course at the PGA Championship. But when the time came to accept the Wanamaker Trophy, one of the biggest in sports, well — he had a bit more trouble.

Morikawa hoisted the trophy, which weighs 27 pounds, and then:

Come on! That lid isn’t attached any better than that? Anyway, at least the trophy wasn’t full of champagne or soup or ashes or anything.

That was pretty much the only mistake Morikawa made all day, firing a final-round 64 to outlast a field that, at one point, featured seven different players tied for the lead. The way he’s playing now, Morikawa will get the chance to get better at hoisting trophies.
