This no-sew bunting is a great project for using up fabric you already have in your stash from other sewing projects, or recycling some old clothes. Go all out red, white and blue, or choose florals, checks, spots and stripes. Anything goes! Why not match your bunting

We used a hot glue gun to secure the fabric to the ribbon, but you could use fabric glue, fusible hemming or stitch.

What you need to make bunting

How to make coronation bunting with step-by-step pictures

1. To make the template for the bunting flags, fold over a piece of thin card by about 5-6cm. Using a ruler, measure 8cm down on the folded edge and mark with a pencil. Measure 12cm down on the opposite edge, then draw a diagonal line between the two points with a ruler. Cut out the shape, then open out the flag template.

2. Take your first piece of fabric and give it a good iron to get rid of any creases. With your fabric the right side down, place the template onto the back of your fabric, lining it up along a straight edge. Use a pencil to draw round it, then reposition the template so it lines up right next to it and draw round it again. Do this several times so you have a few flags drawn out.

3. Using a pair of pinking shears, carefully cut out the flags one at a time. Save any of the nice offcuts to use on another project (check out the paper crowns tutorial here).

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 with your other fabrics so you have lots of lovely flags in a few different designs.

5. Cut a length of decorative trim, roughly the same width as your flag. Apply a thin line of hot glue along the centre of a flag, then press on the trim – the glue is hot, so be careful not to burn yourself.

6. Repeat this process on all of the same coloured flags – or on all of them if you wish!

7. Cut a long length of coloured ribbon, then position the flags in order just beneath. Apply a thin line of glue just down from the top edge of a flag, then lay the ribbon on top.

8. Keep glueing the flags along the ribbon, leaving a gap between each until you have used up all of your flags. You can make one long length or a few shorter lengths, then use your coronation bunting to adorn your home, hung up in the trees or drape them along the edges of tables.
