Yahoo Finance Columbia freshman WR Jackson Coker dies in car crash
Jackson Coker, a freshman wide receiver at Columbia University, died Wednesday morning in a car accident in Austin, Texas, the school announced. He was 18 years old.
Coker was killed in a single-car rollover crash in western Travis County, according to the Austin American-Statesman. Coker's body was reportedly found ejected from the vehicle. Medics arrived at the scene at 6:12 a.m. and administered CPR before Coker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Coker was in his second semester at Columbia, attending classes virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic according to the school.

"We are shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic passing of Jackson Coker," Columbia's Patricia and Shepard Alexander Head Coach of Football Al Bagnoli said. "Not only was he a talented student-athlete who excelled on and off the field, but someone who embodied the personal characteristics our program is built upon. He personified what great teammates are all about. They give great effort in everything they undertake, are extremely accountable in their actions and always put team first. That, in a nutshell was Jackson."
"Our entire football family grieves with his passing and our program extends our deepest sympathies to the Coker family."
Before his time at Columbia, Coker was a standout wide receiver at Westlake High School in Austin. A first-team All-District selection and team captain in 2019, Coker finished his three-year career with 70 receptions, 1,298 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns. He and the Chaparrals won the Texas Class 6A state title in 2019.
Coker was reportedly on track to major in economics and political science at Columbia with a goal to attend law school.
