Companies to Watch: Facebook in the hot seat, Alibaba holds meeting, Hilton goes top shelf

Here are the companies Yahoo Finance is watching today.

Facebook (FB) is in the hot-seat this week. Congress is digging into the Social Network's proposed Libra crypto currency, and officials will go before a House antitrust panel. It comes amid reports the Federal Trade Commission has approved an unprecedented $5 billion dollar fine against Facebook, for mishandling personal information. It's not clear yet just when the fine could be handed down.

Alibaba (BABA) is holding its annual meeting today in Hong Kong with an 8-for-1 stock-split on the agenda. Shareholders are set to vote on the proposal that would increase the number of outstanding shares to 32 billion. Alibaba says the move will help with quote "future capital market activities." They are reportedly looking to launch a new IPO on the Hong Kong exchange.

Hilton (HLT) is looking to upgrade it's properties.The 100-year-old brand announced today it expects to open seven more luxury hotels by the end of 2019. These will join the four other luxury properties it opened this year across its brands Waldorf Astoria, Conrad Hotels and LXR. This announcement comes as Marriott International, Hyatt Hotels, among others notable names, continue to dominate in the luxury-travel market.

“Spider-Man: Far From Home” is ringing in another big weekend at the top. The Sony (SNE) Pictures’ super-hero sequel tacked on $45.3 million dollars in its second weekend at the box office, passing new releases, and bringing its domestic total to $274.5 million dollars.

Secret deodorant is taking a stance for equal pay. The Procter & Gamble (PG) owned company announced plans to contribute $529,000 dollars to the U.S. National Women’s Soccer Team Players Association, to help close the pay gap. Secret even took out a full page ad in Sunday’s New York Times, urging the organization to quote “be on the right side of history.”
