Concept video shows off Apple's gold 'iPhone XS' ahead of launch

In just under two weeks, Apple fans will finally get to see the the firm's highly-anticipated new iPhones.

Ahead of their launch, a fan-made concept video has imagined what an Apple advert for its upcoming iPhone XS would look like, complete with rumoured new gold colouring.

Last week, Apple news website 9to5Mac leaked a photograph of Apple’s two upcoming iPhones, which it said will be called the iPhone XS.

The new video, made by designer Gunho Lee, emulates official Apple promotional videos for its products, but uses the leak published by 9to5Mac for inspiration.

The phone is expected to be released in a new, gold colour scheme and will come in two screen sizes: A 6.5-inch OLED screen and a 5.8-inch OLED screen.

OLED screens are more advanced than more traditional LCD screens, as they work without a backlit panel. This means that they can display deeper black tones and be thinner and lighter than older smartphone screen technologies.

The information published by 9to5Mac fits with several existing rumours of what’s to come in Apple’s next iPhones.

Analysts and journalists have reported that this is an “S” year for iPhones, meaning Apple makes incremental improvements rather than a major design overhaul. Those devices are typically given an “S” designation in their name, such as the iPhone 4S.

The concept video doesn’t show the third iPhone that Apple is expected to announce later this month. The company is reportedly planning to release a new, cheaper iPhone model with an LCD rather than OLED screen.

Last week, 9to5Mac also leaked an image of what it said was an upcoming Apple Watch Series 4, an updated version of Apple’s wearable device. The new Apple Watch appears to have an edge-to-edge display, which increases the size of the screen.

Apple is expected to announce its new iPhones and the new Apple Watch at its event on September 12.

The company sent out invitations to journalists and analysts to attend the event last week, and hinted in the invitation image that a gold colour scheme may be announced.
