COP26: homeowners try to cash in on climate summit as flat ‘with driver’ near Glasgow listed for £7,000 a week

Leonardo DiCaprio is among the latest arrivals at COP26 in Glasgow.

Let’s hope the A-lister’s aides were quick off the mark booking his stay to beat the “Glasgow gold rush”, which has seen Airbnb rates soar during the summit.

Among rentals still available is a forbidding-looking one-bedroom flat listed on Gumtree 45 minutes from the conference “with a personal driver to and from COP26 each day or night” — and a price tag of £7,000 a week.

Would-be renters will be taking a gamble as there aren’t any images of the interiors.

Landlord Daniel did not reply to H&P’s request for more information.

In Glasgow, an Airbnb host has been banned from taking bookings during COP26 after trying to charge an American guest an extra $2,000 for their stay when they realised the conference would be taking place.

One two-bedroom duplex apartment in Glasgow’s exclusive Kelvingrove area is said to have been rented out at £8,583 per night.
